Having a swimming pool can bring enjoyment and a little relief from the summer heat. We offer the following information to help ensure that your pool experience is a safe one: A swimming pool, as defined by Municipal Code, is any structure that contains water over 24 inches in depth and which is used, or intended to be used, for swimming or recreational bathing. This includes in-ground, above ground and on-ground swimming pools, as well as hot tubs & spas. As a matter of safety, pools are required to have protective barriers. Abandoned, unused or pools not in use for prolonged periods shall either be completely drained or equipped with a pool cover. Owners are also responsible for keeping their pool in a sanitary condition. Additional information is available from City Hall regarding the drainage of pools, electrical connections and the policy of Ameren UE on wire clearance over pools. Please consider that pools also may require an electrical permit through St. Louis County. For more information on Pool permits, contact Ballwin Code Enforcement @ 636-227-9000.
